The Forgotten Refugees

1.2 Billion at risk of displacement from the climate crisis by 2050.

Climate change intensifies food scarcity, agricultural degradation and extreme weather events, driving displacement across the globe. While no country will be able to escape the impact of the climate crisis, it will be the world's poorest and most vulnerable populations that will be hit the hardest.

The current system of international law is unprepared for a growing number of climate refugees. Presently, there is no legally binding agreement obliging countries to support and protect climate refugees.

The climate emergency is a reminder that we must come together to show leadership and ensure that everyone has access to a safe, fair future. It is imperative that as we recover from the the COVID-19 pandemic we ensure that climate and social justice and protection for climate refugees is placed at the heart of government intervention.
